        Who knew that “vegetate” was a word used by Mark Twain. I always thought it was an invention of the modern day slacker.

        Danny, Japan feels a bit like Singapore based on your description. Maybe a little more room for creativity, but when I was there that was downplayed quite a bit. I often heard people say “Japanese aren’t creative” from my Japanese friends and colleagues in a way that had a hint of pride, when just looking around told me it wasn’t really true. I have a friend that moved to Singapore from Japan after the Fukushima disaster. I hope I get a chance to talk to him again and get a comparison from him.
