How Much Does It Cost To Travel The World?

Planning your world tour but getting stuck on the budgeting? This week’s video combines the expertise of the inspirational bloggers Chris Guillebeau and Alex Maccaw along with my own experiences to explain how much it costs to travel around various continents. All numbers are in USD and are stated at the current value (2013).

I was only able to comment on the adventures I have taken so I wasn’t able to comment on some of the coolest places in the world. If you have insights and don’t mind sharing, please feel free to let us know your cost ranges in the comments below!

  • There was a post on Iwillteachyoutoberich about a girl who travels for $14,000 a year in Southeast Asia, and I just found a list of apartments for rent in Chiang Mai, Thailand for $300 a month which should make it possible to get the Southeast Asian cost of living down pretty low.

    Here’s that link:

    • Thanks Alex! This is timely for me as that is my next expected destination. Cheers bud!

  • Petr Hnyk

Nice calculations. It’s crazy how it could differ.

Two years back, I experienced most fantastic and still unbeated trip. From Czech republic (Prague) to Spain and back by hitchhike. Whole trip took about month a cost us some $350 per person (inc. entrance to two big waterparks). But of course, that’s living in tent…

Some photos (sorry, don’t have a blog):

If you come again to Prague, you can let me know and see it maybe little bit different.

    • Wow Petr! Those pictures are amazing. :-) Crazy cool that you were able to accomplish so much for so little money. Excellent work!

BTW, what was the story with the bears?

  • Dan that’s a really helpful video. Travel isn’t something that really stands out directly on my bucket list and I have a family to consider as well. I still really love the fact that you’ve broken down something that most people dream about and never do because they never find out what is required, and you’ve just taken them one step closer.

  • Touche. Outstanding arguments. Keep up the great effort.,
